Design details

Dedicated, modular bass units
The midbass is so important to the pace and dynamics that we use a dedicated amplifier channel and dedicated high power, high sensitivity 5.5" driver to this frequency range. The bass is delegated to dedicated bass modules / subwoofers.

Designing for dynamics

Many speakers sound awesome on great recordings with sparse instruments and beautiful female vocals. Ours do too. But when asked for the true grunt and punch of rock, metal and EDM, even expensive speakers scream for mercy. Ours do not.

The SBS speaker system has a capacity in the upper bass and lower midrange unheard of from speakers of this size. The sound is clean and detailed, but never fatiguing.

Its coaxial driver design makes the SBS a true point source, while the fully active crossover ensures precise phase and impulse response. The result is a natural, realistic presentation across all genres, with a soundstage that is both wide and precisely defined.

But SBS can do more than play loud. It balances clarity and air without tipping into brightness, letting you move effortlessly from intimate vocals to hard-hitting percussion. Always engaging, never unforgiving.

Fit & finish
The clean, minimal cabinet of the SBS is tilted 4 degrees, and is finished in satin paint. Two luxurious color options are available: Shady White, and Jet black.

All Sigberg Audio speakers are built by hand in Norway, and they are measured and verified as matched pairs

What's new in Generation 2?
  • A new midbass driver with a laser etched fibonacci pattern (reducing cone resonances) and an aluminium phase plug. The new driver also has slightly higher sensitivity and even better frequency response in its operating range.
  • Revised crossovers and tuning.
  • The cabinet has a cleaner design with harder edger (less rounded), more similar to the Manta and Saranna.
  • New white color, "Shady white". It is a deeper, softer white (same as the Saranna).
  • The grille of the white Gen 2 is grey, while on the SBS.1 it's black. The new grille also stops before the logo, so that the logo is visible even with the grilles attached.

The SBS experience

To the untrained eye the SBS looks like any other 2-way bookshelf speaker. Those who pay closer attention will be rewarded with a speaker system that has higher dynamic range than just about any other bookshelf speaker. And a whole bunch of floorstanders too.

SBS is engineered to play loud with total accuracy, and with the rich, natural sound that is the signature of Sigberg Audio speakers.

  • An open, balanced, and engaging sound signature ensures that vocals and instruments alike are heard with exceptional detail.
  • Tight, deep bass and punchy midbass with accurate transients, even for complex material like rock and metal.
  • Doesn't sound piercing or give listeners fatigue even on less than perfect recordings.
  • Enjoy pinpoint imaging and a wide soundstage for an immersive listening experience.
  • Incredible capacity equals low distortion and accurate reproduction of your favorite records.

PLACEMENT RECOMMENDATION

Recommended distance from back wall 10-50cm (4-20 inches). Try to keep them at least 40cm (15 inches) from the side walls. Toe-in 0-10 degrees. The distance between speakers should be at least as long as the distance between the speakers and you.

Speaker stands should be 60-70 cm (23-27 inches) depending on seating height. Tweeter should be slightly above your ears.

CONNECTIONS

No power amplifier needed. A DAC, preamp or streamer with XLR/RCA preouts is all you need. They work well in most rooms out of the box. By simply pressing a button at the back of the speakers, you switch through presets that further tailor the speakers to your room or preference.

SBS is designed to be located close to the wall. This makes it a great choice both for cramped studios and minimalist style living rooms or if you just want your speakers out of the way. Combine SBS.1 and one of our Inkognito subwoofers to create a seamless, almost invisible sound system that delivers true full range sound! Match them with two Inkognitos or 10Ds to reach their full potential.

Our speakers and subwoofers have built-in EQ. If you have the ability to perform measurements of your setup, we help you evaluate the measurements and suggest appropriate EQ adjustments - for free!

BASS

Our speakers and subs integrate perfectly without any manual setup. If you have dual subs (recommended), you can connect the subwoofers via the speakers (XLR through connection). Feel free to contact us to learn more.

LOUDSPEAKER STANDS

Stands are not included with your purchase of SBS, but with their neutral design, many aftermarket stands will work well. Recommended stand height: ~60 cm (~23 inches). Tweeter should be at or slightly above ear height (not below).

Note that the SBS is unusually shallow. The footprint is 19x23cm / 7.5x9 inches (WidthxDepth), so make sure the top of the stand you order isn't deeper or wider than this.

The sound and capacity of large floorstanders in a small package

The SBS speakers are pretty small. But the full system with bass units (subwoofers) represents equal or better SPL capacity than even large floorstanders.

The combined cone area of two SBS and dual Inkognito subwoofers are about the same as two large floorstanders with dual 8" bass drivers. What's more, the SBS system will easily surpass most floorstanders in terms of raw performance!
